GALLANT Community Collaboration Research
What is a Hub?
CommuniGALLANT brings together researchers and communities across Glasgow to explore climate, nature, and justice in new ways. As part of this work, we’ve established three community hubs, which act as focal points for local collaboration and action:
Govan
West-Central
Govanhill & Strathbungo
These areas have strong community networks. They align closely with GALLANT’s core themes. These include flood risk, biodiversity loss, and vacant and derelict land. They also cover active travel and inclusive mobility, as well as sustainable energy.
A Hub is more than a place. It is where community knowledge, creativity, and action come together. These elements shape Glasgow’s just climate transition.
The Hubs act as centres of gravity for our work, but they’re not exclusive.
We welcome involvement from across the whole city!
What is the goal?
We know that meaningful collaboration takes time. Our goal is to build trust, share knowledge, and explore what climate justice looks like in different parts of Glasgow.
We do this by:
- Linking in with existing work and community action
- Getting to know local people and places
- Hosting workshops, interviews, creative activities, and walks
- Co-developing community science projects that link to local priorities
What’s Happening in the Hubs?
Here are just a few of the projects we’re supporting across the Hubs:
In Govanhill, across several locations, we’re running community composting experiments. We use visual art, soil testing, and collective reflection. These approaches help us explore care and circularity.
In Govan, residents join us for tree and water walks. They share memories and reflections on flooding. They also discuss local biodiversity and restoration possibilities.
In West-Central, residents join us for nature walks and interviews. They also share memories and reflections through the Nature Co-Lab project.
We’re always looking to hear from people, groups, and organisations across Glasgow who want to take part.
There are lots of ways to join in:
- Join an upcoming workshop or community walk
- Add your voice to the CommuniMap app
- Host a conversation or creative session in your area
- Become a community interviewer or citizen scientist
