Our work in Anderston, Yorkhill, Kelvingrove and Clydeside began with a series of photo walks and creative workshops in 2023. During these activities, participants explored themes of sustainability. They also looked into mobility and greenspace. These sessions helped surface early ideas about how people relate to their neighbourhood. They identified what’s working. They noted what’s missing. Additionally, they examined where potential lies.
Building on that, the community helped shape our Emerging Questions document, which guided the next phase of work. Two major strands have since developed from this process:
The Movement Co-Lab — exploring how people move through the area. It identifies where barriers exist. It also examines how the design of spaces affects active travel, inclusion, and wellbeing.
The Nature Co-Lab — exploring how people connect with nature through story. They connect through movement and memory. This connection influences climate resilience. It also impacts urban biodiversity.
Together, these strands form the heart of our collaborative research in the West. They combine creative practice, community science, and systems thinking. This approach imagines more just and connected futures for the area.
This hub continues to contribute directly to the design of CommuniMap. It also contributes to the testing of our citywide app. CommuniMap is used for sharing climate stories, observations, and ideas.
The illustrated map created during our early photo walks is still available as a snapshot of community reflections on greenspace and movement in the West End: here
