Our work in Govan began with a series of creative workshops and photo walks. A diverse group of local residents explored ideas around sustainability, place, and identity. They did this through photography and conversation.
Together, the group identified eight key locations in the area that hold cultural, social, or environmental value. These locations formed the basis of an illustrated Govan map. The map was co-created with local artist Libby Walker. It celebrates local knowledge and spaces of significance.
Since then, our work in Govan has deepened into two focused strands of collaborative research:
The Tree Co-Lab explores local relationships with trees, seasonal change, urban biodiversity and the role of trees in flood-risk alleviation. It includes how we notice and care for trees in our everyday environments.
The Water Co-Lab is investigating lived experiences of water in Govan. This includes how people observe flooding, drainage, and river changes. These factors affect movement, memory, and wellbeing.
These projects are contributing directly to the CommuniMap app. There, community members can record observations about trees, water, and other environmental changes. This helps build a shared picture of Glasgow’s climate future from the ground up.
